At Miles we do the same, the student registers as normal and pays. If they pass, they do not have to attend. If not, they attend class as usual. We do not have many challenge exam classes, just a couple.
We assign “P” grades for CLEP.

Subject: [!!Mass Mail]2 Questions: Challenges and CLEP
Hi Everyone! I hope that you had a lovely 4th!
Can you tell me how your campus handles challenges? Tech enrolls students in the class and they pay tuition for those credits. Then they take the challenge exam. If they pass, they get the credit and a grade for the class and don’t have to attend the rest of the semester. If they fail, the remain in the class. It came to my attention that most of the other campuses conduct challenge exams before classes start and students are charged only a small fee. Is this correct?
Also, do you assign grades for CLEP exams and if so, what formula do you use?
