Re: Genealogy Searches

This is from our transcript/verification coordinator, Susan:

If the student was born after Dec 11, 1910, we would require a death certificate to show that the student is deceased. If deceased, then anyone can have a copy of the records as we are no longer under FERPA.

If the individual is still alive, FERPA restrictions apply and only they can access their records.

Thanks,

Susan May

I think we’ve discussed this before but I can’t locate the chain in my files for the conversation.  So here we go again (maybe)

What do you require outside people do or submit when they are requesting information and/or documents to support genealogy searches?

Thanks for your thoughts.
