One-Two-Free Program

Good afternoon-

Please see the attached document for an initial overview and implementation guidance on the new One-Two-Free program announced by the Governor and Commissioner this week.  Further details will be coming next week, but please pass this information along to anyone on your campus who may be affected.  This document will also be delivered to campus CFOs for distribution to Business Services/Student Accounts representatives.

 

If you have questions or comments, please feel free to get in touch and I’ll do my best to get them answered.  Thank you for your patience as we work through the details of this exciting new program for the students of Montana.

High Impact Practice Attribute Codes

Hello,

As part of Montana’s High Impact Practices (HIPs) project that is being funded through the National Association of System Heads, we would like to have a better statewide understanding of HIPs participation with the ability to measure and track outcomes through the MUS warehouse. Some HIPs are already being captured in Banner using attribute codes and I am proposing a naming scheme for the rest of them. Please review the list below and let me know if your campus already uses one of these attribute codes for something other than what is listed in the translation. The goal would be for broad adoption of the codes starting Fall 2019, but campuses would be free to use them beforehand. They all share the “academic enrichment” prefix.

I am working with a team of campus leaders to define a process to have these codes applied, but it will generally begin with the instructor identifying that they have a high impact practice in the section(s) of a course that they teach and having the chief academic officer confirm that the activity meets the minimum HIPs definition. Academic affairs office will approve the HIP and then communicate back to the instructor and registrar to apply the attribute code.

Fall Conference and Residency Dicsussion

Hello,

I just spoke with legal counsel in Helena as we prepare for our conference in October.  They are working on revising the residency policy and will share their draft when we meet in October.  In order to make the most of our meeting in October we are asking for the membership to provide responses to two specific questions:

 

1. Please submit a list a situations you are experiencing that become difficult to adjudicate given the current policy (case study examples for conversation).
2. Please submit any specific recommendations for policy change or clarification.

 

Please only one submission per campus.  Please submit your feedback (to me) by September 18^th.  Residency will be the first topic/session during our fall meeting.

The first day of classes or anytime after that, for that term or prior terms.  Our logic is that pre-registration does not constitute enrollment, only intent.

FW: Policy 301-5-3 revision

Hello,

Please see the attached proposed policy revision.  Essentially, there are some courses (internships or independent study at UM for example) that are offered pass/fail yet need to count toward degree.  This change is meant to bring policy in-line with practice. 

 

Please let me know if you have an issue with this proposal.  If there are no objections from this group, I imagine it will be on the next BOR agenda.

• Suspension Processes – sharing current practices: what is the good standing, probation, suspension process? How do we honor one another's suspension upon application? Feedback on a proposal to eliminate suspension.
• Business meeting, including: review of bylaws, treasurer's report, review of website, discuss fees and conference structure, strategic planning – how can we best serve our membership.
