Re: Question About Grades

At FPCC we us Jenzabar and the instructors submit their grades electronically in JICS.  It works well.

At MSU we have all grades submitted electronically (except for a few exceptions in which the instructor submits a grade-roster and we record the grades).  Generally, any errors or grievances are caught quickly by students.  We do some active cleanup to ensure instructors are reporting all grades, all I grades have accompanying paperwork, and there is no mis-use of the NR grade.  Overall it works pretty well.

We could add this to a list of potential discussions at our fall MACRAO converence if that may be helpful.

Stay tuned for a message regarding the fall conference.

UM- Missoula is similar with electronic grade roster submission.  I print paper rosters from the few faculty who don’t get their grades turned in on time, and keep them in folders at my desk.  At some point, we will probably upload them to Box, but it’s not that many so it’s not that pressing.

Alternate grades for incompletes has been a bit of a challenge with electronic submission.  Instructors are supposed to email an alternate grade if they assign an Incomplete in the grading module, but the module doesn’t currently force them to so we rarely get alternate grades.  That’s on my wish list for our techy, Brenda. J

For years, we’d been sending reams of paper grade reports to departments at the end of the term, but switched to electronic reports in Box about three years ago.  We now distribute electronically so both the department and our office has an electronic copy.  Instructors can individually view their electronic grade submission history in faculty CyberBear.  It’s pretty slick.

We are similar to Western in our process. It is has not caused any problems. It is an issue when students grieve and the faculty are no longer here, but we would have had the same information on the paper rosters.

At Montana Western we do not college paper grade sheets unless it is a situation where the professor cannot submit through the student information system.  After all grades are confirmed in, we download a report from banner and store that electronically for documentation of the end of term grades.

However Incomplete grade forms are received by paper still and stored in a grading binder currently.  We probably need to look at updating that to an electronic copy.

Good morning!

I have some questions regarding grades and grade sheets:

1.       Do you collect paper grade sheets from your faculty as part of your grading processes?

a.       If no, has that caused any problems for you?

b.       If yes, do store those grade sheets electronically?

Any feedback/insight is appreciated!
