LeRoy Rooker Montana FERPA Tour

Reminder for the upcoming Montana FERPA Tour by LeRoy Rooker

 

The Montana Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (MACRAO) is excited to host LeRoy Rooker, the nation’s leading authority on the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). LeRoy Rooker served for over 21 years as the director of the Department of Education’s Family Policy Compliance Office and has been a key participant in formulating laws and policies designed to help protect students’ rights. Mr. Rooker will share his FERPA expertise with faculty and staff across Montana. 

 

Each campus presentation will have an option to join in-person or virtually.  If you plan to join for an in-person session, please email the local contact.  If you plan to join for the virtual session, please register via Virtual (Zoom) RSVP link for the day, time, and campus you would like to attend virtually.

We are currently using CAMS.  We have been in the process of switching to a new student information system called Anthology. Unfortunately, 2+ years later, we are still working on the conversion process.  (long story!)

Yes, the job we run just cleans out all of their charges and classes. It does not feel fair for those that do what they are supposed to do, but that is the way it works right now. We drop most the before classes start which feels more fair then the ones that are dropped after the 15th day.

We drop our students from classes if they do not accept the charges. We have a deadline before the semester starts and then again on the 15th day. We run a cancellation job that just cleans out their registration account. They do accept their charges in the Banner self-service.

DCC currently does not have an automated process for students to accept charges. Some students do not accept before the census date and therefore do not count in our student numbers to OCHE. I am being told by my administration that they "legally" the student cannot be charged if they do not accept their charges. Is there something that can be set up in Banner to force students to accept charges when they register for classes?
