Hello,
When I’ve done a program name change I do not allow the student to come back and get the new name degree as an additional degree. They are the same degree just different title. I would allow the student to move catalogs, if they wish, to get the new degree name but not both.
Best of luck.

Subject: Program name change dilemma!
Hello everyone!
I have an interesting question that we received from a student and I’d really like this group’s feedback.
Our BS in Network Technology received a name change for the 2020-2021 academic catalog. It changed from BS in Network Technology to BS in Cybersecurity and Network Admin. In addition to the name change, a few course requirements were updated. So, students on the 2019 catalog an prior will graduate under Network Technology and students on the 2020 catalog forward will receive the new name of Cybersecurity.
A student emailed asking if he could graduate with BS Network Technology, then come back the next semester and finish the requirements for Cybersecurity. He wants both degrees listed on his transcript. I am leaning towards “No” because these are not two separate degrees. The only change is the name and some very minor course requirements. The student would have to choose whether he wants Network Tech or Cybersecurity. It’s a matter of which catalog he wants to use. They’re the same degree, just different names.
Has anyone else ran into this with a program name change? I appreciate any guidance or advice!
