Re: Visitors in the Classroom

During Preview Days we allow prospective students to sit in certain classes.  We do not require any type of FERPA with this as it is a one-time only case.

For students with documented disabilities, we do have a release on file for any type of assistance.

We have had community people want to sit in on classes when an outside speaker is present.  Our V.P. of Academics does not allow this.  They would be required to register for the entire course.

Subject: [MACRAO] Visitors in the Classroom

Good morning, MACRAO, and Happy Friday!

I would sincerely appreciate any guidance or recommendations you may have on ‘visitors in the classroom.’ These would be primarily prospective students who want to sit in on a class as part of their campus visit, and not guest lecturers.

Do you have a process or policy on prospective students sitting in on classes? If so, do you have a FERPA release of any type?

Thank you for your knowledge and expertise! Have a great weekend.
