FVCC did away with the application fee altogether so we don't have anything to waive.

MSUB is participating.
Signed the agreement; let the Chancellor know we were on board.
However, I didn't ask anyone in accounting beyond my own recognition that it was lost revenue.

Hello!
I'm wondering which colleges are participating in College Application Week the week of November 11-15 and waiving their application fee. Our budget person is telling us we can't because the application fee is a mandatory fee and can't be waived….but I'd like to participate if we can. It would help to know who else is participating when I put on my boxing gloves to fight that fight!
Thanks,
Kathy

Dear Montana University System Campus Leaders:
As you deliberate your higher education institution's participation in College Application Week, I encourage you to keep in mind that Montana's high school enrollment is declining and as noted in the chart below only 61% of Montana High School graduates in enrolled in college in the fall semester immediately following graduation in 2010. Expanding College Application Week also opens the door for more high schools to participate in a collaborative effort with you to increase the number of students enrolling in college. In addition, I attached an email from Viv Hammill, OCHE Chief Legal Counsel, regarding a concern expressed by a campus to clarify that the current BOR policy does not preclude participation.

The deadline for a decision to participate in College Application is next week, August 15th and fast approaching. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Thank you again. Jan

Re: College Application Week
At the invitation of American Council on Education, Montana GEAR UP joined the American College Application Campaign in 2012 to successfully pilot<http://mus.edu/GearUp/College_Application_Week.asp> College Application Week in four high schools with 216 seniors participating. We plan to expand this year and write to invite you to join Montana's College Application Week this November.
The American College Application Campaign (ACAC) is a national effort to increase the number of first-generation and low-income students pursuing a college degree or other higher education credential. The primary purpose of this effort is to help high school seniors navigate the complex college admissions process and ensure they apply to at least one postsecondary institution. The effort occurs during the school day, with a focus on students who might not otherwise apply to college.
This past April, Montana GEAR UP sponsored all high school juniors in public schools to take the ACT Plus Writing (ACT) exam free of charge. Previously, about 40% of Montana's graduating seniors have not taken this college readiness exam. For high school seniors to prepare for and complete a college application during the school day opens the door for many students who might not have otherwise taken this important step toward college.
Montana GEAR UP sponsors the cost of one college application for each senior attending one of our 18 school districts. With the support of Superintendent Denise Juneau, we will be reaching out to non-GEAR UP sponsored schools to invite more high school participation. To ensure that Montana's College Application Week helps more students apply for college, we need Higher Education Institutions in Montana to join this campaign. Specifically, we need to know if you want to participate and would you be willing to either waive or defer your application fee for one week in November. Although, this appears to be a simple ask for you to simply forgive incoming revenue, other states are finding College Application Campaign events do generate enrollment.
North Carolina began College Application Week in 2005 with one high school. By November 2011, the event was sponsored in 488 high schools, representing every district in the state, with 25,243 North Carolina students submitting 61,854 applications. In 2012, College Application events took place in over 1,600 schools in 24 states and the District of Columbia, resulting in nearly 130,000 students submitting more than 195,000 applications. Click here to learn more about all 2012 participating states<http://www.acenet.edu/news-room/Pages/ACAC-Participants.aspx>.
GEAR UP looks forward to continuing our partnership with you on this innovative approach to help reach Montana's important college access and completion goals. We appreciate your careful consideration on how your campus would like to participate in Montana's College Application Week campaign set for the week of November 11-15, 2013. The Montana College Access Network is also interested in partnering to help grow the program this year.
Thank you in advance for asking a staff member to respond by completing the form below and returning it to Montana GEAR UP by August 15th. If you have questions or need more information from other states, don't hesitate to contact me at mtgearup@montana.edu<mailto:mtgearup@montana.edu> or 406.444.0056.
Best,
