FW: MUS Core Questions - Please Respond by April 19th

Good evening MACRAO –

Please see the note below.  Conversations are in the pipeline regarding MUS CORE; WICHE Passport; Tracking student success via the National Student Clearinghouse and the like.

As part of the committee conference call, I had supplied a document created after the implementation of several transfer policies in 2005 that was developed by the MSU 4 campus banner student team for tracking and at least at MSUB, is in use still presently.  Just so you have a backdrop for some of the questions.  You might also recall a bit longer than a year ago when our Provosts were asked how many students took advantage of the MUS Core and some data was provided – that is also context for these questions.

As part of the conversation, the committee recommended a first step to be information gathering from campuses so that those involved in future discussion are aware of the current practices.

You may wish to reach out to your CCN Gen Ed Council liaisons for additional insights.

Subject: MUS Core Questions - Please Respond by April 19th

General Education Council:

The Tracking and Assessment subgroup had a very productive inaugural meeting yesterday. We determined that there is information we need on how campuses are currently tracking the MUS Core to move forward. Could you please work with your registrar / admissions / advising folks to provide responses to the questions below? If at all possible, please respond by April 19th.

Questions on current MUS Core process

  1. For incoming (i.e. transfer-in students), how do you evaluate whether students have completed the MUS Core? How is completing the core transcripted or tracked?
    • Who makes the evaluation decision?
    • What steps does a student need to take? What if they have not completed the MUS core, but have 20 or more credits completed?
  1. For outgoing students, how do you evaluate whether students have completed the MUS core? How is completing the core transcripted or tracked?
    • What steps does a student need to take if they are transferring and want completion of the MUS core listed on their transcript?

Thank you,

Joe
