More history. Circa 2005. Based on the discussion at MACRAO related to this policy. Here is the historical information I have from it. I served on several other policy revision committees in the wake of the 2005 LAD review that launched changes, but not this one so what I have is limited to what was brought forward publically. These were the choices brought forward... resulting in what we now have. I cannot locate any discussion materials, or background on the MUS site indicating there was intent regarding Pass/No Pass grading as part/parcel of this. I believe that institutions who are not using P/NP for certain categories are doing so based on institutional policy discussion, or some interpretation that is not explicit.

Subject: A Message from Roger Barber for the MACRAO Folks
Dear MACRAO Colleagues,
I've attached information about the proposed minimum grade policy that will go before the Board of Regents in May. You will immediately notice that three (3) alternatives are being sent to the Board of Regents for their consideration, since it has been difficult to get some kind of consensus on the breadth and scope of the policy. Hopefully, with the major issues. . .and differences. . .framed by these three alternatives, the Board can agree on some minimum grade standards.
I've also included the narrative that will accompany the three choices, so you can identify the issues that are presented by each alternative policy.
These three "choices" will obviously be discussed extensively at the Academic & Student Affairs Committee meeting on Wednesday, May 18th, in Billings. If you have strong opinions about this issue, and I know some of you probably do, you should share those thoughts with Lynn Hamilton, who chaired this work group. I would be happy to collect that feedback, too.
Best Regards,
Roger
