·        This workshop is designed to better position Montana in meeting its objectives to increase opportunities for veterans.

 

·        Hear about cutting-edge work of the Texas-based “College Credit for Heroes” initiative and its success in building accelerated programs in a variety of occupations, including nursing.

 

·        Review steps that Alamo Colleges took to conduct crosswalks from military training and occupations to healthcare curriculum.

 

·       This workshop is free-of-charge and includes lunch (paid for via a grant from USA Funds)

 

 

Dr. Pelayo has served as Faculty member, Continuing Nursing Education Specialist, Chairperson, Dean, and is currently the District Director of Nursing.  Her innovations in the curriculum and delivery of the nursing program include the development of the first in Texas, distance learning modality for nursing education using Live Interactive Video Conferencing; the creation of a combination inpatient and simulation clinical experience in which simulation technology is utilized an as an enhancement to the student’s clinical instruction; work on College Credit for Heroes initiatives in which accelerated curriculum have been developed that build on the skills and experience obtained during the veteran’s military training in healthcare fields; and a commitment to helping communities attain an 80 percent Bachelor’s degree nursing workforce, while recognizing that this cannot be achieved without the help of the Associate Degree Nurse.
