Hi Leslie,
This answer may not be quite what you’re looking for, but at Carroll our faculty recently passed a policy that for post-baccalaureate students who have earned a degree from another regionally accredited college or university we will consider our Core Curriculum fulfilled except for one philosophy course and one theology course – and if post-bac students have taken these courses at another institution they can transfer them in. This means that for post-bacs we only transfer in courses that are applicable to the major/minor requirements, and any applicable philosophy or theology class.
I think you raise a lot of good questions, and I’ll admit that when scanning some post-bac transcripts students they are sometimes missing courses that we would normally require in our Core. But on the whole we decided that we needed to trust that students with a BA/BS have already received a “well-rounded” education and that there were some specific mission-centered subjects that we wanted to make sure they had exposure to before awarding a degree from Carroll. Overall we have fond that this policy change has allowed more flexibility for many of our non-traditional students, especially in our professional programs.
Here’s the official policy from the catalog:
Post-baccalaureate students must complete the following requirements:
1. Completion of 3 credits of philosophy and 3 credits of theology to fulfill Core Curriculum requirements;
2. Completion of all program requirements in the major and minor (if one is taken);
3. Achievement of a minimum cumulative 2.0 grade point average in
a. All courses taken,
b. The requirements in the major, taken as a unit,
c. The requirements in the minor, taken as a unit.
Residence Requirements for Post-baccalaureate Students
Of the credit hours earned toward the second degree, a minimum of 30 credit hours must be earned at Carroll College, with at least one-half of the credits required in the major and minor to be taken at Carroll.
Best,
Cassie

Subject: Assuming Gen Ed Completion
Hello, I have some questions about students transferring in with a Bachelor’s degree and the assumption that their Gen Ed core was met.
1. If a student has a Bachelor’s degree, do you always assume that the Gen Ed are complete? Do you exclude them from the individual courses required to complete the second degree? Do you do a block transfer for the Gen Ed courses?
2. What if the 1st degree was prior to the exclusion of D grades for graduation? For example, if a student earned the Bachelor’s degree with Ds in Gen Ed courses, do you grandfather those in even though there was a break in attendance?
3. If you assume Gen Ed competency and do not transfer courses individually, how do you handle degrees with higher level math? For example, it seems problematic to allow someone to start in M 273 for an engineering degree by assuming math competency in the first 6 credits of that program.
4. Do you handle the AA or AS transfers with Gen Ed the same way?
Am I making this too complicated? It just seems like the more I dive into this process, the more questions I have. Thanks for any wisdom you can share!
