Re: Dual Enrollment Question

We do not have an online application process at this point. We do let college credit only students register themselves but we register dual credit students for their courses. Dual Enrollment applications are usually processed within a week and we do have different application deadlines but they are not hard deadlines.

Subject: Dual Enrollment Question

Hello,

I was asked by FVCC’s Director of Admissions to respond to this question.  J

FVCC allows students to apply online, but we haven’t moved in the direction to allow DE students to register online.  For the most part, we are working with students who have never attended college before and we value the face to face advising appointments that we require each student to go through each semester they plan to register.  As a member of NACEP, I have seen a variety of online registration models, but I feel that although streamlining the process is always a priority, I’m afraid of losing some of the valued advising time if we moved to an online model.  We require signatures from the student, parent, FVCC advisor and high school counselor each semester.  Yes, electronic signatures could be used.  Another concern I have is that many times parents seem to want to take the lead when looking at courses and when I’m able to meet with a student directly their “wants” might be different from mom or dad.  I’m able to pick up on that and will only sign for what the student is showing interest in…the last thing we want to do is register a student for course they don’t want to take and have them end up doing poorly and starting their college transcript off with a low gpa.

Since we haven’t decided to move in this direction, I haven’t done a lot of research beyond some side conversations at conferences.  However, there are a lot of colleges doing this, so there should be some really solid models out there.

Hope this helps and I would be interested to know if any MT colleges are moving in the direction.

Thanks!

Beth

We are having some discussions on our campus on streamlining the Dual Enrollment registration process. Has anybody put the dual enrollment app into an online application? Does anybody let these students register themselves? Also, what is the general timeline for processing these? Do they have a special deadline or is it the same as your regular application deadlines?

Thanks in advance for the help on this topic.
