Good morning,
I apologize in advance if these seems like a pretty basic question. I am wondering what your school policies are for accepting official transcripts by email. My understanding is that email is not truly secure and should not, in most cases, be used to send official transcripts. We do not accept emailed or scanned transcripts from students or parents to meet our official transcript requirement.
We do often receive emailed transcripts from schools, and in a recent case, from a college Registrar’s Office. Given the volume of transcripts we receive, managing the verification of all school email addresses that send us transcripts is not sustainable for us. I understand, however, that schools can often turn around a transcript much more quickly by email which means a quicker turnaround in processing for the student. I am just curious what standards your institutions use. If you do accept official transcripts by email from schools, what is your process for verifying security? We currently insist that any emailed transcripts be sent again by snail mail or through an approved transcript delivery service such as Parchment or NSC. If we are an outlier though in not accepting any emailed transcripts it would be helpful to know so that we can look back at our policy.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts you can share.
