ACE Military Credit Guide

Good afternoon,

I attended a webinar about evaluating military credit earlier this year and was given a website that provides the outcomes for the ACE credit recommendations on the JST Transcripts. The PLA workgroup thought that everyone might find this information helpful. You can use the numbers on the JST transcripts to look up outcomes for a particular course/occupation on the transcript. You do need to pay attention to the dates the course was offered as that is very important to selecting the correct outcome set. I have started using this guide with the faculty here and we have started relating some of the recommendations to direct course numbers and not just electives. It has been very helpful. I hope you find it useful as well.

Shared Data Policy

Good afternoon MACRAO –

I hope this email finds you all doing well this spring semester. I have a question regarding shared data / forms within the SIS.

Here at the University, the offices of Human Resources, Alumni / Development, and Registrar’s Office – has the ability to process a name change, address change, or indicate an individual as deceased. We are trying to identify a specific process that works for all departments, when a change to the record within the SIS is made.

First question –

Would anyone be willing to share the institutional policy used on your campus for shared data? Specifically, what we are struggling with, is when a change to a record within the SIS impacts multiple departments.

Another question  –

What is your policy as it pertains to a “student record” moving to an “alumni record?” If there is a difference, does this change the policy on changes to records?

A final question –

If one person is identified in all categories (employee, alumnus, and current student) – which department has the authority to make the changes to the student record?

Thank you for your invaluable input and expertise!

Have a great afternoon,

Brittany

Re: LAST CALL FOR AGENDA ITEMS: Spring MACRAO Meeting - March 31 - April 1

This is a topic I've been following.  The Webster definition states:

Transgender  adjective trans·gen·der \-ˈjen-dər\

Definition of transgender

1.     :  of, relating to, or being a person (as a transsexual or transvestite) who identifies with or expresses a gender identity that differs from the one which corresponds to the person's sex at birth

trans·gen·der·ism \-ˌi-zəm\ noun

"T" has been the most common abbrev. cited.  The definition makes no difference as to whether a transition is in progress, complete, or contemplated; it's how the individual identifies themselves.

I believe all discussions on this topic, need to be how the individual identifies themselves, not how they may be perceived.

Sorry, it's a hot topic for me…had to add my 2 cents worth.

We (at MSU) are dealing with some demands from the Queer Straight Alliance.  QSA is asking for the ability to record gender (with multiple options) as opposed to sex (male, female, null) and the opportunity to use a preferred name for people going through gender transition.  Wondering if others are doing the same, have done this, what they have found.

Interested in a discussion on this.  Perhaps we could share the status of what we are doing and open the floor for conversations.

Would you like time to update in PLA at the meeting?

The following are some updates related to the PLA policy approved by the Board of Regents and the processes that are currently occurring to assist/guide campuses with this policy.

First update: the OCHE PLA Council has been meeting to discuss and help with implementations on the campuses.  As part of this process each campus has a PLA Liaison assigned to their campus.  In the current weeks, the PLA liaisons are gathering representation from their campus from various perspectives and offices to work through a brief survey.  If you have not heard from your PLA liaison about these meetings we highly encourage you to reach out and get representation in these campus groups. PLA processes will affect us and we need to be at the table.  If you are not sure who your PLA Liaison is please feel free to reach out to Dena Wagner-Fossen who serves on the PLA council as well as the liaison for Great Falls Campus.  She can help you determine who the liaison is for your campus so you can reach out to them.

Second update:  the MACRAO workgroup formed at the previous meeting has begun to meet to discuss the transcript and record keeping aspect of PLA.  Dena is facilitating/leading this group so information can go directly back to the PLA council regarding what is being discussed.

Third update/recommendation:  At this point majority of us have seen the PLA BOR approved policy.  But if you have not familiarized yourself, please take an opportunity to by going to https://mus.edu/borpol/bor300/301-19.pdf.  There is also an expanded policy guidelines available as https://mus.edu/2yr/PLA/Documents/MT%20PLA%20Expanded%20Policy%20Recommendations%209-11-15%20FINAL.pdf

Hope you are all having a wonderful Friday!

I think this is a topic for the registrar's and would prefer if we could come up with our solution and then run it by OCHE to make sure it works for them as well.  This way national standards and student service are more likely to remain the driving factors as opposed to reporting.  I am sure we can make the reporting work and it will be easier if we have consistency.
