Subject: Your Help with PACRAO Nominations and Elections

Dear Lora, Stuart, Bonnie, and Melisa,

I’m writing to you as the contacts for Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, and Nevada, in my role as the PACRAO Past President and Chair of the PACRAO Nominations and Elections Committee.  I would love to have your help to identify and encourage PACRAO colleagues from your states to become more involved with PACRAO.

Let me request your particular assistance as the Nominations and Elections Committee builds a list of nominees for leadership positions that will begin November 2014.  N&E members are working this summer to start soliciting nominations.  In addition to any individual messages that you send, I ask that you send a message via any listservs that may be in place in your state.

Please help me reach out and encourage others to become involved in PACRAO—by contacting outstanding individuals from your state and your campus (INCLUDING YOU) and outstanding individuals across the PACRAO region. There are several positions which need multiple, strong nominees this coming year.  Individuals ultimately elected in this cycle would start to serve November 2014.

Leadership Opportunities for 2014-15

·         President-Elect (3-year term, including President and Past President years)

·         Secretary (2-year term)

·         VP for Membership (2-year term)

·         VP for Professional Development (2-year term)

·         N&E Committee (6 members for 1-year term)

As a member of the Nominations and Elections committee last year, I remember that a fair amount of work was done at the PACRAO conference by me and other committee members to recruit individuals for the leadership positions. While this is a fine time to recruit folks to become involved, it doesn’t always give people a chance to think through their interest in positions or their ability to commit the time to our organization. By reaching out to you (and others) over the summer, everyone has some time to think about this and come up with names of your team members who could be emerging leaders for PACRAO.

You can either nominate a member of your staff (or another colleague) or give me some names of people that you think would be excellent and I can talk with them (and possibly nominate them). Of course, you can nominate yourself!  Please don’t be bashful if you are personally interested in being nominated. Here’s the link to the PACRAO site where you can access the nomination form: http://www.pacrao.org/docs/toc_resources.html.  When you are there, click on “Nomination Form.”

After being nominated, individuals will be asked to provide additional information to the N&E Committee by completing the nomination activity form, also available at the link noted above:  http://www.pacrao.org/docs/toc_resources.html.

If you nominate someone directly, just let me know who you are nominating and for which position. The committee strives to have a balanced slate of candidates and being aware of the nominees is extremely helpful. I’m happy to do the heavy lifting if you want to just ship off a few names to me.  The better candidate pool we have, the stronger PACRAO becomes.

Thank you in advance for spending a few minutes on this task over the summer. Responses by the end of July would be extremely helpful.

I’m happy to connect with you and/or anyone contemplating deeper involvement with PACRAO.

Cheers!

Julia

Hi Bev,

We offer a few professional certificates and we treat them the same as other applicants/classes. The degree code we use in banner is PROCER for professional certificate.

FVCC offers several professional certificate programs.  We handle them in the same manner as any other  application; they apply for the program,  we identify them by the name of the program with the code of CT, the courses are identified the same as all other courses and a grade of  “C-“ or better in all required courses.  Our pharmacy tech program also requires a selection process for one to be considered for the program.

At the Missoula College, we are planning to add some professional certificates.  Some of the applicants will be current or former students, while some will come from the workforce.  If you have professional certificates, we are curious how you handle them.  Does your application process identify them in a different way (for example coding), and do they follow the same application process?  Are the courses identified differently and are they graded as credit/no credit or with traditional letter grades?

We appreciate any information you can give to us.

Pass/Fail Grades

Just a question – for all of you who accept the pass to meet requirements how do you determine if it meets the minimum grade requirement of a “C-“?  Most transcripts I receive do not indicate what the grade value is.  We use the “S” grade and state on our transcript legend that it is equal to or greater than “C” I rarely see this information on transcripts received.  Just a curious…...

Well, I've gone and done it!

As you can see from the subject line above, after a year of deliberation, I have elected to "re-retire" after "un-retiring" and serving UM since March 2009.

As I make my exit yet again, I wish all of you great colleagues the very best in your professional and personal lives. It's been a true pleasure working with you over the years, and more importantly getting to know many of you as more than just colleagues, but often as friends.

Should you wish to stay in touch, my personal email address is:   Johnson.edwin@gmail.com .

Ed,

Congratulations.  Thank you for all that you have done for our profession in the state of Montana and your tireless service at the national level.  On a personal note, thank you for hiring me back in 1994 and providing so many opportunities along the way (including co-presenting my first ever national presentation AACRAO).

It is with added emphasis that I wish you a HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

All best!
