Good Morning Everyone

FPCC has two new course offerings under our Native American Studies discipline.  One is a language class and the other is a knowledge course. Who do I speak to or what is the protocol regarding an assignment of a common course number?

Thanks

Dear AACRAO Members,

As you hopefully know, the 2013-2014 nomination process for Board and Nomination & Election (N&E) Committee positions is open. And we need more nominations!

Please nominate individuals who you think would be qualified candidates for the open positions now! It’s an easy process – just click on this link and sign in to your account (there are “forgot username/password” instructions should you need it), and then nominate away!

We need a greater selection of candidates more than ever, especially due to the governance changes approved at the last Annual Meeting in San Francisco – the N&E Committee will now select up to two candidates (not just one as has been in the past) per open Board position. AACRAO members will then vote for the candidate they feel will be best for the job. More communication on this process to come.

Below are the open positions:

·         President-Elect

·         Nominations and Elections Committee

·         Vice President for Admissions and Enrollment Management

·         Vice President for Access and Equity

·         Vice President for Information Technology

Thank you in advance for your nominations.

Best regards,

Tina Collins and Carl Einhaus

Re: FW: Question about Quarters

Cheri

It would seem that you would accept the credit as a completed general education course and make up total credits required for graduation.  We do this for transfer courses that have the same course content but a lower credit hour requirement (or vice-versa).  Sometimes student practicums have varied credit hours that would allow them to pick up additional credits, if needed for graduation requirements.

Hope this helps,

We would allow the student to transfer in the Writ 101 for our equivalent gen ed to meet that requirement, but they would only earn 2.64 semester credits for the course. the missing credits would be made up in the end for total needed graduation credits.

Hope this helps.

Greetings,

I met with officials from Chief Dull Knife a few weeks back and the question arose as to how the rest of us would manage their transfer students if they began again on the quarter-system, instead of semester-system.

They are looking at this as a way to retain students, but don't want to ultimately disadvantage a student going on to additional educational opportunities.

I provided some information from AACRAO in general on conversions, but specifically the questions seem to center around the following:

·         Credit slippage in general

·         Credit slippage for specific programs

I indicated I would help by polling all of you to give them a broader response than simply my own.

For example – a student takes their Writ 101 for 4 quarter credits.  For an institution that requires 3 semester credits in Writing – will you consider the requirement done for a general education course; and simply make up the total in the end for graduation credits; or will you require an additional credit (or partial credit) in writing to specifically meet that content ?

Thank you for your help!

If it were a 3 quarter credit (2 semester cr)  writing class we would require them to take an additional class – a 4 credit quarter class we would not as we would give them 2.67 sem credits – anything 2.5 and above we allow to meet the required credit.  They still need to meet the overall number of total credits required so they would have to make up the difference.  Does this make sense?

Re: Question about Quarters

Here is our policy:

If a student has taken courses at an institution using quarter credits or units other than semester credits,

Great Falls College MSU will convert the quarter credits/units to semester credits. Credits will not be lost in the

conversion. For example, 15 quarter credits (15 x 2/3 = 10), would convert to 10 semester credits.

If a course is transferred as a required course for a degree or credential, it will be accepted as the

equivalent Great Falls College MSU course. If the course is not the same semester hours as the course at Great Falls College MSU,

the student will need to meet program hours for graduation.

Re: Updated MACRAO listserv Address

Thank you for your work on this, Ken.

All – this information has been updated on the MACARO website.  The instructions on how to subscribe to the ListServ are here:  http://www.macraoonline.org/listserv.html.  The button to send an email to the ListServ is located in the Membership Secure Area.  Also, anytime someone sends something out to the listserv with attachments, I’ve been posting it to the Announcements area:  http://www.macraoonline.org/announcements.html.

Subject: Updated MACRAO listserv Address

Dear MACCRAO listserv users:

We have successfully implemented a new server and upgraded the listserv software.  We have high hopes that this will resolve some of the delivery issues that we have seen lately on the older server and software version.  Also, to take into account the renaming/rebranding process for us here at Great Falls College, we have also changed the email address for the listserv.

From this point forward, please use  macrao@listserv.gfcmsu.edu for your emails to the listserv.  I have added all of your accounts into the new listserv so there is no need to re-subscribe to the new list and address.  The old listserv and address will still be functional until July 1st at which time we will fully decommission it.  You do not need to unsubscribe to the old list, just simply begin using the new listserv address.

I will continue to keep an eye on the server to ensure that is functioning properly.  Please note, once you submit a message to the new listserv, it may take up to 10 minutes for your confirmation of delivery to be received and your message delivered.  This was done to help prevent throttling issues and conflicts with other lists on the server such as our student listserv.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at kenwar@gfcmsu.edu.

Have a great weekend!
