Subject: Credit for Military Courses and Training

 

Good afternoon,

 

Attached is a link to HB 317, which is an act related to developing criteria for awarding credit for learning through military service.  This bill was signed by the Governor on March 20^th  with an immediate effective date.  As a system, we supported this bill during the legislative process as we had already begun to address this issue and were working on a Board of Regents policy that was similar in nature.  I have discussed this policy with the Veterans Workgroup on several occasions and will be bringing a recommendation to the Board of Regents in May.  Additionally, Deputy Commissioner Neil Moisey has provided the draft policy to the Chief Academic Officers at each campus for comment and our Prior Learning Assessment Workgroup has completed a review.
