The University of Providence mirrors the process of MSU-Northern. We have a regalia provider who is on-site to issue regalia at the time of order; however, students have the option of having them shipped to their home addresses. Of course, distance students order online and have regalia shipped directly to their home addresses.

We allow both via the Bookstore. Distance students usually have it mailed to their home; campus students pick it up at the Bookstore. The student is responsible for their regalia. The only exception is the honors cord; the Registrar’s Office issues those.

Currently FVCC requires the student to pick up their cap/gown on campus. New this year—students will be ordering directly through the company instead of FVCC submitting the order. Keeping my fingers crossed. J

In Great Falls, the student can do either – pick-up or delivered to their house. This is all done by the bookstore and if they have it shipped to their home, I believe there is an additional service charge. ~d

Our letter basically says the same thing as Great Falls. We have always done it on letterhead with a wet signature. I have not had any feedback on it, but it has been a while since we have had the request.

From what I hear the requirements for ensuring an “official” letter have recently become a bit more strict; we used to provide a pdf version but evidently that will no longer suffice, so now we provide a wet signature and our official seal just to cover all the bases. Here’s a snip of our form letter:

If I understand rightly, this letter serves to establish a legitimate need for a 16-year-old to take the HiSET (as opposed to just finishing high school per usual). Adult Ed programs can use either a letter from a college or a letter from a prospective employer to establish that need. Our local Adult Ed program handles all of the other requirements from there, so I’ve never been asked to provide multiple versions in different media. That sounds like maybe a quirk of your Adult Ed folks.

Hello all,

I forgot to ask this last week: OPI requires a unique letter from colleges if a 16 year old applicant wishes to take the HiSET. Each time I get the request from a counselor, it’s different. Sometimes it’s a request for the students name to be used, sometimes it’s for a wet signature, sometimes they require it scanned AND mailed. Do you have a template you’d share? Or guidelines you’ve been given by OPI? It seems like the requirements for the letter change each year, and I’ll be honest- I don’t understand the letter’s purpose since the BOR language specifies the admission requirements for MUS schools, and we’re not guaranteeing the applicant admission upon completion of the HiSET.
