Re: Everfi

Would we want this information on a student's transcript if it were not going to another school but for a job?

Hi Virginia,

I received the same information last week. We are holding grades this fall, but will blocking registration in the future. I think it would be beneficial to decide as a group a consistent way of tracking and notifying other campuses. It seems like putting it on the transcripts would be the most consistent option, but I am not sure if that is feasible for every institution.

I am looking for information on Everfi. I have been informed that I need to put students on hold if they have not completed Everfi by Fall 2015. All incoming students must take this before registering for classes. If a student decides to transfer, I have been told that I need to inform the transfer institution whether the student has completed or not. How is this being tracked? Is this being done on the transcript or in Banner? I have read a brief update from Helena College regarding grades, but it appears that a transcript can be requested and mailed. Any clarification would be great as well as information on tracking.

Thank You from Bonnie Ashley

Hello MACRAO friends,

Thank you so very much for the wonderful sentiments, kind words and fun stories at our MACRAO dinner in Great Falls, and for the thoughtful gift certificate to my favorite restaurant.  It is a bit surreal to think of a daily routine that doesn’t involve a trip to campus (hunting for a parking spot because I’m late again) and working with so many of you across our MACRAO organization on large & small issues.  While I’m excited about the many projects and trips my husband and I have planned, there is poignant sense of loss when I consider that we won’t be in regular contact solving problems or insisting that those at OCHE hear our opinions/advice.  You can’t get rid of me that easily, so be sure to look for me in the bar nearest to those wonderful MACRAO conference dinners!

It’s difficult to express my heartfelt appreciation for the support and encouragement that I have received over these past 34 years from MACRAO colleagues.  So many times, I have reached out to individuals or the group for information, ideas, advice or simply to vent – and you never failed to provide that essential help and empathetic ear.  Real friendships and camaraderie developed as we worked together to address national, regional, MUS and institutional issues.  The expertise among this group is stellar, and your generosity in sharing that knowledge is extraordinary!  The willingness to work together for a common good is what sets this group apart from all other higher education organizations, and you should take pride in that community.  Students benefit from this approach, and with all other things considered, that’s the reason we’re here.

I have so many memories that include my MACRAO friends:   the laughter and tears, the frazzled nerves & frayed tempers working thru CCN and FLOCs, travel to a conference in a raging blizzard, shared successes and train wrecks, profoundly professional and informative presentations --  and foremost, I will remember each of you with my deepest appreciation and respect.

Fondly,

Bonnie

Re: Photographers at commencement ceremony

At MSU in Bozeman we use Lifetouch as well, and they have been absolutely outstanding for the past 25+ years at our ceremonies.  Originally Jolesch Photography in Des Moines Iowa, this company specializes in academic settings, i.e. Commencement ceremonies, honors or award ceremonies, convocation, marching band competitions, etc.  In the late 1980’s we began to hold  5 or 6 simultaneous college ceremonies, and we were unable to find photographers in MT who had the staff & equipment to accommodate that schedule.   So when we learned that the U of ND used this company from Iowa, I gave the owner a call – thank goodness!  They have since merged with Lifetouch (largest school photography company in the U.S.) in a newly formed Commencement Division, and our go-to photographers from Des Moines still fly out for our ceremonies, bringing all the equipment.  Lifetouch also hires MT photographers to assist as needed (usually 2-4).  There is no cost to the institution for the many services to the institution & graduates, however we do provide Lifetouch with mailing & email address info for the graduates; this company contacts the graduate with a web link to his/her graduation pictures ‘proof’ (usually 3-4 pix) along with order information.  Our students & families receive great service from this company, and their photographers are professionals who contribute to our Commencement ceremonies, often sharing best practices from other institutions’ ceremonies.  The problem in contracting with this company may be in the timing – so many of us have Commencement ceremonies near-or-on the same date; you may encounter problems with their availability but it doesn’t cost you anything to find out.  If you’re interested, Jerri Weston has more information, and direct contacts with Lifetouch/Jolesch staff, so feel free to contact her for that information.  Good luck!

Does anyone have professional photographers to pictures at your commencement ceremony?  Any suggestions about any groups that specialize in commencement ceremonies and are available in Montana?

Thanks for your input.  We are thinking about it this year, but I need to get some additional information prepared.
