We don’t currently have one (one of the milestones to tackle in the future), however at my previous school we allowed up to 9 credits to double count. This seemed like a good overlap as it provided enough that a minor or major could cross over a little bit but the bulk of the credits still had to have different courses.
I’ve tried to find a precedent in BOR policy but have yet to find anything.

Subject: credit overlap between major and minor
Hello,
Could you please share with me any policy our guidelines you use to differentiate minors and majors in similar fields.
Currently MSU-Bozeman does not allow students to major and minor in the same field (ie Math and Math). This gets complicated when the fields aren’t identical (ie Stats and Math). Do other schools have policies or practices that would suggest a minor requires a certain number of additional credits or…???
Any help is appreciated.
