Transferring Associate of Arts Degrees

HI All;

I have a question from the advising department regarding evaluating Associate of Art/Science degrees from each other and meeting the MUS Core/General Education requirement when an associate of art/science has a specific field of study.

MUS policy 301.10 and 301.12 which discussed transfer of associate of art or science degrees has a notation that in cases where the associate of art/science has a designated field or major that it may not necessarily fulfill the general education transfer requirement and students may be required to take other general education.

So, In your transfer evaluation practices when you see an associate of art/science with an “insert designated field”  (i.e. associate of art in glass); do you typically just note the associate of art/science part of the degree and allow it to fulfill the general education requirement or do you do a course by course evaluation to determine if the AA/AS with the focus area actually met the general education requirements?

I’m interpreting the policy one way, others have interpreted it another way in the past…so I appreciate your insight into how you facilitate and/or follow this transfer policy.

For those that have either finished or are about to finish commencement weekend…wishing you the best and a few days of recharge afterwards!
