Dual Credit Letter

All –

First, I want to make sure you are all aware of this new program.  Below is a message that was sent to all high school teachers describing this opportunity.  Within the message is a link to a web page that will provide more detailed information http://mus.edu/DualCredit/.  Please let me know if you have any questions going forward.  We have multiple people and groups working on this effort and I'm happy to help facilitate communication on this important initiative.

Second, it will be critical that we accurately identify all dual credit courses (i.e. concurrent enrollment courses taught by high school teachers in the high school).  Please send to me your method for identifying Dual Credit courses in Banner.  I know some campuses use section codes…if that is the case, just let me know what your coding scheme looks like. Please send this information by June 16th.

Thank you,

Tyler

Subject: Montana Dual Credit Incentive Program

Dear Montana High School Teacher:

We are excited to introduce this opportunity for you to earn coupons for tuition-free college education for yourself, your family members, or anyone you choose when you teach dual credit classes to Montana high school students. These coupons and their value, described in greater detail below, may be used at any public or tribal college or university in Montana.

The new Montana Dual Credit Incentive Program is an opportunity in the next two academic years for teachers in the state's public and private high schools to earn access to tuition-free courses by helping to expand dual credit in Montana. As an instructor or potential instructor of dual-credit courses, you serve an important role in helping to make college opportunities more accessible and affordable for Montana students and families. In appreciation of the fact that demands and pressures on teachers are ever growing, we enthusiastically support this program to provide teachers with material incentives to further the expansion of dual credit learning in Montana.

More information about the Montana Dual Credit Incentive Program for teachers is viewable on this web page: http://mus.edu/DualCredit/. Basic information about the program is available on the web page now, but please check back for updated information around June 15. Further details about contact information and arrangements for the next school year will be available soon.

Starting this fall and continuing for two years, teachers who are qualified to instruct a concurrent-enrollment class for dual credit may earn a coupon for tuition-free college enrollment equal in value to the number of college credits instructed by the high school teacher. For example, a teacher who teaches a three-credit course with at least four students concurrently enrolled and earning dual credit will receive a coupon for three credits worth of free tuition to be used by any individual of the teacher's choice at a public or tribal college or university in Montana.

This program will last for the next two consecutive years, beginning Fall Semester 2014 and running through Spring Semester 2016. Teachers can earn up to 24 credits over the two-year period. Coupons for tuition-free education can be transferred to family members or friends and must be redeemed by the end of Spring Semester 2017.

Thank you for your tireless, dedicated commitment to student success! You are moving Montana forward. We are proud to support teachers in making college dreams more accessible and affordable for Montana families.

Sincerely,

Governor Steve Bullock
