Re: Spring MACRAO Meeting - March 31 - April 1

I think it woud probably be good to discuss coding PLA on transcripts.  We have not finalized our process but it would be good for people to share what (if anything) they have come up with.  Ideally, we could all do it similarly so that there is consistency across the state that brings us in line with state policy and accreditation standards.

I think this is a topic for the registrar’s and would prefer if we could come up with our solution and then run it by OCHE to make sure it works for them as well.  This way national standards and student service are more likely to remain the driving factors as opposed to reporting.  I am sure we can make the reporting work and it will be easier if we have consistency.

Thanks

Hello All!

Thanks to all of you for responding to the calendar invite for our spring meeting. I hope that helped get the meeting on your radar for March/April!

I am calling for agenda items at this time. We are currently planning to have a discussion about the annual AACRAO convention and gender identification in Admissions/Registrar. Beyond that, the agenda is open.

Please reply with your suggestions for topics and/or speakers and I will get to work building our agenda for spring!

Looking forward to seeing you (and warmer weather)!

"Conference Gold Nuggets" at next MACRAO spring Meeting

Hi everyone.

I wanted to take a moment and mention a session we are adding to this year’s spring MACRAO meeting  titled “Conference Gold Nuggets”.

If you attended a conference, meeting or had some professional development this year think about or be on the lookout for a “nugget of information” or “ah ha moment” that might benefit the admissions and registrar representatives attending MACRAO.  During the spring MACRAO meeting we will have an open discussion session where you can choose to share what you’ve learned or brought back to your campus that might benefit the members of MACRAO.

For those that choose to share, the nuggets or ah ha moments don’t have to be big and life changing….just a 3-5 minute  update about something that resonated with you from a conference, meeting, or professional development from this year.

Between all of us we have a great amount of collective knowledge gleaned from a variety of sources that could support and encourage each other.  Let’s think about what we can share and bring to the table for our first “Conference Gold Nuggets” in the Spring.

Have a wonderful day!

MACRAO Spring 2016 Meeting

Re: Non-degree Freshman

Hey Everyone!

Matt pretty much outlined our process. Traditional freshmen who are non-degree seeking and take less than 6 credits do not have to provide a copy of their MMRs.

Hope this all helps!

Good Morning Violet,

At Montana Western, non-degree students may be considered for admission without meeting the usual entrance requirements if they provide satisfactory evidence that they are academically prepared to pursue the special courses desired. We do allow traditional-aged Freshmen students to attend as non-degree seeking students. They must submit an application for admission, pay the $30 application fee, and provide proof of MMR immunization. If a non-degree seeking student later chooses to pursue a degree they must maintain good academic status and complete all entrance requirements for admission.

Can you all share your admission processes for your non-degree applicants- specifically, do any of you allow traditional-aged Freshman to attend as non-degree and if so, what documentation do you require (or not) to admit them?

Re: Non-degree Freshman

FVCC accepts non-degree students, but they are limited to 5 credits per semester unless they provide immunization records (if born on or after January 1, 1957).   They are also required to take placement tests if enrolling in English/math courses, and meet any other prerequisites required for courses.   If the student decides later to change their status to degree, they must fulfill the admission requirements for a degree student.

Re: [!!Mass Mail]Non-degree Freshman

We do.  We make it clear that they are not eligible for Financial Aid if they go this route.  We have a two page Non-Degree Student Application that must be completed.  They are limited to 9 credits or less.  Anything more they must go through the full application process.  They must have sufficient ACT/SAT or Compass Placement scores to be able to place into college level coursework.

Hope that helps.
